Planning a camping trip is a great way to spend more time with your family and explore new places you might miss on other types of vacations. Plan Activities

One of the best ways to engage your kids in your camping trip is to plan activities for the whole family. This can be something as simple as a game night around the picnic table or as complex as a scavenger hunt. Whatever you plan to put on the agenda for the family, be sure you tell the kids ahead of time so they have something to look forward to during their down-time at the campground.

Give Them Space

Although RVing naturally puts your family in a smaller space where it can be difficult to get some time alone, giving your kids space when they need it is a great way to ensure they enjoy their stay at the campground. You can do this by encouraging them to ride their bikes around the campground, taking hikes, or just setting up a designated spot for them in the RV.

Pack Games for Rainy Days

Plan for rain. No matter what the season, it’s always a good idea to plan for a rainy day. We recommend bringing tarps to keep everything dry and plenty of board games so you can spend a day playing together when it’s too damp to be outside.

Let Them Help to Plan

Another excellent way to get the kids involved with your camping trip is to ask them to help plan it. You can get them involved with picking out the camping dinners, researching places to visit, and picking out their own camping equipment.

Pick Stops Along the Way

Road trips can be particularly hard with little ones, so try to plan frequent stops on the way. Even better, pick stops where there is something fun to do like a playground or a sightseeing opportunity to break up the drive. This is an excellent way to keep the kids from getting too bored on the road.

Be Easy-Going

My last bit of advice is pretty simple: just go with the flow. Inevitably, things won’t go quite according to plan and that’s ok. Just try to be easy-going and adjust as you go. The kids will enjoy having a more laid-back environment that gives them a break from the rush of day-to-day life, and you’ll get some time to sit back and relax when you’re at the campground.
